ITIL
certification is one of the topmost certifications and is required for IT certificates for good reason. As an IT governance framework, ITIL can

4 got an update by Axelos in February 2019 to provide a robust focus on getting

4 Certification Pathway:

pathways for a total of seven modules between the two certificates. You move
from Elementary to Professional Management (MP) or Strategic Leader (SL)
pathways. You can stop on either track, or if you choose to do both tracks, you
qualify for the ITIL master's degree.
ITIL Foundation:
Whichever
path
you choose, you must first pass the ITIL Foundation module, an entry-level
certification covering the basics of ITIL 4. Candidates for the ITIL 4 Foundation exam must have a basic
understanding of developing products as well as services that are crucial and
valuable to customers and stakeholders. , ITIL 4 foundational principles, four
dimensions of service management, ITIL 4 best practices, and key concepts for
Lean, Agile, and DevOps.
The
ITIL
Foundation course is held in a classroom a day or two. You will take a one hour
exam consisting of 40 multiple choice questions for which you will need 26
correct answers, at the end of the course, The courses are offered by
accredited training companies and you can got it on the Axelos website. You can
also self-study using practice exams and other materials from Axelos or third-party
suppliers.
ITIL Management Expert (MPT):
The
ITIL
MPT certification is for the IT professionals working with technology and digital
teams across the enterprise. It provides the necessary knowledge to manage IT
projects, teams and work processes with practical and technical skills. To
complete the ITIL MP certificate, you must pass a series of test modules:
ITIL Specialist Creating Delivery and
Support: This
module covers basic service management techniques, service efficiency and
methods to improve and service quality. It is intended for ITSM practitioners
who are responsible for the entire provision of IT services and products.
ITIL Specialist Drive Stakeholder Values: This module covers engagement
and interaction between customers, users, suppliers and partners with service
providers. You will deal with SLA design, multi-vendor management,
communications, relationship management, CX and UX design, and customer path
mapping.
ITIL Specialist High Velocity: You will understand the
concept of the Agile and Lean with other technical skills, and how to integrate
methodologies, which also includes cloud, testing and automation and to make
sure the fast delivery of services and products.
ITIL Strategist Direct Plan & Improve: This module covers the skills
which are practical needed to “create learning and improvement IT organizations
with a strong and effective strategic direction. You will focus on using Agile
and Lean to plan quickly and deliver continuous improvement.
ITIL Strategic Leader (SL): The ITIL SL certification
applies to all digitally enabled services in the organization, not just IT
operations. This certificate focuses on how IT influences and informs business
strategy. To receive the ITIL SL certificate, you must pass two exam modules:
ITIL Strategist Direct Plan & Improve: It is a similar module offered
in the MP certification and covers the skills needed to build a “learning and
growing” IT organization. It is the same as a
universal module for both pathways, as it is aimed at "managers at all
levels involved in the creation of direction and strategy or the development of
an ever-increasing team".
ITIL Leader Digital & IT Strategy: In this domain or module you
will learn how to coordinate business and IT strategy and how to deal with
destructive technologies. It covers the syllabus such as how to stay competitive
in a rapidly changing marketplace, maintain a flexible and adaptable
environment, and how to effectively develop and implement successful IT and
digital strategies.
ITIL Master: If you complete all the modules required
for the MP and SL certification pathways, you will be eligible for the ITIL
Master's degree. For becoming an ITIL Master, you will need at least five years
of ITSM experience at a leadership, management or consulting level.
The
ITIL Master's degree requires strong experience in ITSM and extensive hands-on
experience working with ITIL, but there is no fixed training or curriculum. You
will be tested in the situation of your choice so the material is personal in
your experience. Certification requires hands-on experience and you must "justify
how you personally select and apply the various knowledge, principles,
methodologies and techniques from the ITIL framework and supporting management
techniques to achieve the desired business results," says Axelos.
Compatibility with ITIL 3 certificate:
ITIL
4 is compatible with ITIL 3 - courses included in the ITIL 3 scheme have been
assigned a credit score based on the level of ITIL content so they remain
valuable for your professional education. Individuals with 17 credits or more
or applicants who have obtained the ITIL Expert ITIL 3 certificate are entitled
to the ITIL 4 Professional Transition module and exam. This five-day course
introduces you to ITIL 4 and guides you on your journey to earning the renewed
ITIL Managing Professional (MP) award.
The
ITIL exam named “Upgrade to ITIL 4 Foundation” is available until June 2022.
If you do not finish the exam by
the desired date, you will have to start the ITIL 4
certification process from scratch.

The
ITIL 4 certification can add several positions to your advantage. Those in
their respective positions using ITIL 4 earn an average annual salary of
$99,000 per year, according to PayScale.
ITIL Certification Cost:
Registration
fees for the ITIL 3 and ITIL 4 exams vary by location and range from
approximately $150 to $500. While you can study independently for the ITIL
exam, courses are highly recommended, and tuition fees, whether online or in a
classroom, vary by location and institution. Tuition fees can range from $500
for online courses to over $1,000 for intensive face-to-face training, and
training fees may or may not be included.
